Japanese motorcycle brands like Honda and Yamaha make incredible motorcycle fairings, and many of the aftermarket designs are just as good. There are a few reasons for this consistently high level of quality manufacturing. Inexpensive bikes were first developed in that part of the world. Japanese builders pioneered many types of lightweight motorcycles and fairings. Japan is well known for making ABS plastic, which is a key component in molding motorcycle fairings.

Light goods are often moved around by motorcycle in Japan. The image of a motorcycle rider delivering items ordered from a ramen shop is a common sight in many works of Japanese fiction. Special motorcycle fairings and enclosures are used to turn ordinary lightweight bikes into serious workhorses. Some businesses use stock bikes while others use certain types of customs. This ready market has increased the demand for reliable bikes from Asian builders.

Many of the major Japanese builders have experience making other products. Suzuki Michio founded the original company as the Suzuki Loom Works in 1909. The factory in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka boomed as it made countless looms for the huge silk industry in Japan. Japan continues to be a major producer of raw silk. The firm entered the automobile industry in the 1930s. However, the Second World War hampered the company’s dream of producing these new vehicles.

Japanese consumers wanted reliable personal transportation after the war, and Suzuki eventually turned to making clip on gas engines for bicycles. While these lacked even the most basic of motorcycle fairings, clip on bikes featured a double-sprocket gear system. Such designs were extremely innovative for the time. Suzuki was making around 6,000 motorcycles each month by 1954. They changed their name to Suzuki Motor Corporation around the same time. That’s not bad for a company that was capitalized at only ¥500,000 in 1920.

Even a number of lightweight models without stock motorcycle fairings have strong fitment. Suzuki’s T 350 bike was manufactured between 1969 and 1973. The air-cooled 315 cc engine provided riders with a top speed of around 90 mph. Of course, some of the newest street bikes come with great motorcycle fairings right off of the lot. People that need replacements may look to either OEM or aftermarket parks, provided that they’re ordering them from a reputable dealer to begin with.

Japanese companies have dominated the motorcycle market for some time, and they also make some of the best motorcycle fairings. Both OEM and aftermarket designs are available for bikes by firms like Yamaha, Suzuki and Honda. Either aftermarket or OEM parts are an attractive addition to any motorcycle. Most bikes take some damage to the body during their lifetime.

Considering words like ninja have long been applied to Japanese motorcycles, it makes sense that they’d come equipped with some sort of armor. Fairings serve to protect the motorcycle as well as the biker riding on top of it. They generally fit windscreens that dispel at least some of the rain and debris that assaults anyone that does a significant amount of street riding.

Each company provides their own catalog of fairings. Suzuki, Honda and Yamaha parts are all available. Bikers and mechanics should know what particular type of fairings they want before they actually rush out to buy them. Genuine Japanese parts are some of the best in the world. People look up to the Japanese builders, and the management techniques that they use.

These motorcycle companies are praised for the ability their fairings have to take a beating. Even some factories in China actually import ABS plastic from Japan. Japanese firms make some of the most durable ABS plastic in the world. Many people might associate plastic parts with inferior quality. However, ABS is lightweight and is actually a better choice than fiberglass. Some inferior motorcycle fairings are actually made out of PVC.

Injection molded fairings are usually of a higher quality and provide better fitment than press molded motorcycle fairings. Some suppliers recommend that professional mechanics install press molded motorcycle fairings on individual bikes. Bikers can usually install injection molded bike fairings on their own, because the fitment is superior. Fairings should always fit properly.

Different bikes might accept fork mounted motorcycle fairings as opposed to designs based around frame mounts. Fork mounted motorcycle fairings allow the headlight to follow the handlebars. Frame mounts are rigid and don’t move. This is up to both personal preference and the particular bike in question. No one should ride a motorcycle that they feel uncomfortable with.

A range of options makes and models are available on our home page www.easymoto.com

Everyone who owns a bike knows very well that they’ll eventually take a spill. Whenever a motorcycle hits the ground, the fairings are always the first thing to go. On one hand, this means that the internal components are safe, but it also means that those aggressive curves are run up with scratches. Motorcycle fairings made by OEM suppliers can cost around $3,000, and most bikers don’t just have this sort of money lying around. Naturally, when something is too expensive, people look towards the Internet.

Aftermarket fairings are available for under $1,000, but it can be hard to weed out the bad vendors. Sadly, there are numerous Chinese manufacturers that produce poor quality components. There are also foreign firms that take your money and run, so to speak. These transactions are usually conducted outside of eBay, so Pay Pal doesn’t offer protection on them. Moreover, very unethical vendors will promise that they ship injection molded fairings but send inferior compression molded designs as well.

Nevertheless, there are also plenty of legitimate firms on the Internet. These are the businesses that can save you a lot of money. Companies that are easy to contact and have a phone number are usually far more legitimate than those that simply send emails in broken English. Legitimate firms will usually be able to answer their own phone. This is a sign that the company in question might be on the up and up.

Nationally based companies usually care about their reputation, so these also tend to be far better than fly by night firms. It is important to remember, though, that aftermarket fairings aren’t a bad idea by themselves. In fact, some suppliers can ship products that are technically superior to OEM designs. It is simply a case of the buyer needing to beware.

In the early days, fairings were essentially a type of cowling that was placed in the front of the motorcycle’s body to increase the surface area. The BMW R100RS started the world off on a trend towards full fairings. Naturally, the entire concept was essentially copied from the aircraft industry and simply later applied towards motorcycles.

Though the R100RS was leading the way in 1976, in the modern era, it seems that motorcycle fairings have become an integral part of many motorcycle designs. In fact, the way that motorcycle fairings are mounted changes up the speed, steering and handling in profound ways. This is why the bikes built by companies like Suzuki, Yamaha, Kawasaki and Honda can mount so many different styles of fairings. In fact, there is probably a full catalog for each make and model. The OEM firms build some of these designs, and others are great examples of the aftermarket trade.

They’re also used to increase fuel mileage. The streamliner class of fairings covers the entire body of the motorcycle and provides the minimal drag coefficient ratio that’s possible with this engineering platform. The dustbin fairing looks something like an aircraft front and reduces the frontal drag. Nevertheless, the International Federation of Motorcycles ended up banning this design because it tends to be unstable.

The half fairing runs beyond the lower part of the handlebars to around the cylinder block. Those that really like everything to be custom can usually extend these out to be full fairings if they want, though. The dolphin fairing fans out around the streamlined front wheel and windshield midguard. This makes it look like the beak of a dolphin, which is where the name originally came from. This sort of fairing became popular in the wake of the IFM’s ban on dustbin style fairings.

KTM is the leader in sport bikes, and the KTM 1190 RC8 was a special model for the company. When it premiered in Milan in November 2007, it was the first superbike that was completely made in Austria. It also comprised the most powerful series motorcycle that was ever developed in that Central European nation. That might be a bit ironic, considering that they’re also the world’s leading manufacturer of off road bikes.

This might seem to be development on the opposite end of the spectrum, but KTM clearly knows about all types of motor sports. They have one of the most dynamic factories in the industry. The 1190 RC9 boasts a two-cylinder engine that delivers 155 hp. That horsepower comes with a maximum torque of 120 Nm. This is an absolutely phenomenal machine that deserves the respect that both engineers and bikers give to it.

With a high quality suspension and brake set, most people would figure that this motorcycle is a simple combination of the best ideas currently on the market. They’d be very wrong to think so narrowly, however. KTM’s technicians decided to pursue a few novel features, like moving the exhaust to underneath the frame. Even with a full tank of fuel, it only weights around 200 kilos. Gerald Kiska led the design team, and he should receive plenty of kudos for doing so.

Those who like to add a custom spin on their motorcycles probably won’t find too much to complain about when it comes to the engineering. However, some bikers might want to spruce up the color scheme, which seems to only be offered in orange and black or white and black. That being said, the unique tubular light frame shouldn’t be a source of any problems. No one would be displeased with that sort of technology.

While the Honda Innova uses a 125 cc engine to deliver 9 horsepower, a Dutch enthusiast by the name of Allert Jacobs invented a motorcycle that can grab 214 MPG. It is essentially a streamlined version of the Inova. Having converted the vehicle to a recumbent bike by moving the seat down on the step-through frame, Jacobs proceeded to move the foot pegs. Having added a fairing, he increased the top speed to around 69 mph. With a taller gearing set, this had the effect of raising the fuel economy to 156 mpg.

Then again, he wasn’t ready to stop there. He took a while to design and build a full motorcycle fairing, which actually splits just behind the windshield so that he could enter. Though it looks extremely unstable, Jacobs claims that the bike can handle a 40 mph crosswind if it came down to it.

Perhaps some of this has to do with the fact that the fairings are extremely streamlined well developed to the point of almost appearing alien. On the other hand, it doesn’t appear to be visually quite as strong as a standard motorcycle. This might be due to the paradigm that people expect bikes to fall into, but then again, this is an area where one should always dare to be different.

His ultimate goal is 235 mpg. While this might sound a bit strange, he seems to have based it on metric measurements. In the metric system, 235 mpg comes out to 1 liter for every 100 kilometers. That’s certainly an honorable goal to meet, and considering Europe’s extremely high fuel costs, it might make more sense than one might think. Then again, riding along in a little pod has to be enough to please bikers who also happen to be science fiction fans.

At age 26, I paid off my college debt by myself and I’m actively working. However, my parents were extremely angry when I wanted to buy a motorcycle. While I ended up with a Kawasaki Ninja 250r, and all of the safety equipment, my parents actually claimed that they were extremely disappointed in me and that my mother nearly passed out when she heard the news. I should probably mention that the motorcycle fits perfectly well, but they even tried to change my mind by having my baby brother cry to me on the phone.

While I know that I’m an adult and that it’s my own life to lead, I still can’t help but deal with emotion guilt at times. I’m financially independent, so it’s not as though I was using their money or anything like that. Rather, I fully paid for the machine myself. It cost around $5,000 and I could clearly afford it. I don’t see this as something that’s irresponsible. It’s certainly a way to get a dangerous toy, as my parents seem to call it, but it really is a way to get around. Perhaps only bikers can understand this in the first place, but there are so many reasons to own a motorcycle beyond the obvious. I knew that I wanted this.

The one thing that confuses me the most is that I took a safety course. I really wanted to show responsibility. I don’t advocate unsafe riding for anyone. That just gives bikers a bad name anyways. Most motorcycle accidents are caused by poor operation. This is just like an accident with any motor vehicle. While my parents have done some ridiculous things, like called a few people from my past to try and get them on their side, I’ve tried to be totally responsible about this.

Riding a motorcycle is an almost spiritual experience. If anyone says this is ridiculous, they probably haven’t ever ridden. It’s a way to take your life into your own hands and throw caution to the wind that’s kicked up in your 160 mph wake. However, from a technology standpoint, bikes really haven’t changed that much over the years. Fairings are what give a modern bike that awesome look.

Naturally, they also have a lot to do with performance as well. When bikers stole fairings from aircraft engineers, they were applied in much the same manner to reduce drag and increase the aerodynamics. They help to streamline airflow by consolidating the bike and the biker. That being said, they also give your superbike the look of a fast bird of prey.

The second-generation CB900F series from Honda were decent motorcycles, for instance, but their lack of fairings created turbulence at higher speeds. Today’s crotch-rockets often come with fairings however. That doesn’t mean you’re stuck with them though. They do wear out, and replacing them can also give you something that you can be proud to call your own.

Unfortunately, OEM fairings can cost up to 30% of the actual bike’s price tag. Many mechanics claim that OEM designs are more stable, but there really isn’t that much difference between them and the aftermarket designs. There are plenty of decent vendors that offer ABS fairings at a fraction of the price of OEM models. These aftermarket designs are also probably better for many stunt riders, and might come with a free windshield.

The trick to finding good aftermarket fairings involves understanding the way that they’re made. Compression molding is an older way of doing things. It involves manual work to scrape away excess plastic, and thus lacks uniformity. Injection molding is a process where molten plastic is injected into a mold cavity. Injection molding produces fairings that have a fitment that rivals that of OEM designs. It should be noted that the OEM companies actually use the same method, so there is no reason to pay for expensive fairings just to have an international motorcycle company’s name on it. Many of these better aftermarket fairings start around $599 US. With a custom paint job, you can have a bike to truly be proud of.
